[갈]6:9 우리가 선을 행하되 낙심하지 말지니 포기하지 아니하면 때가 이르매 거두리라

  

[갈]6:10 그러므로 우리는 기회 있는 대로 모든 이에게 착한 일을 하되 더욱 믿음의 가정들에게 할지니라

  

 

  

그리스도인의 삶이 지속된다는 것은 그리스도께서 원하시는 일을 계속 지속한다는 것을 의미합니다. 그래서 예수님께서 주를 믿는 자들을 구원하시는 것이고 그 구원은 영원에 이르게 됩니다. 이를 통해서 주님께서 행하시는 일을 영원토록 지속하는 자들이 존재하는 것입니다. 중요한 점은 주님이 처음에 이렇게 주님의 뜻을 이루고 있는 자들을 구원하신 것이 아니라 주님이 구원하신 자들이 주님의 뜻을 이루며 살아가는 것이라는 점입니다. 그래서 그리스도인인 우리는 주님의 뜻을 사모하면서 살아갑니다. 어느 일정 시간만 그렇게 하는 것이 아닙니다. 영원토록 그러한 삶을 살아가게 됩니다.

  

이제 이와 같은 그리스도의 삶의 연속성을 생각할 때 오늘 말씀은 그로 인해서 무엇이 나타나며 어떻게 나타나는가를 보여줍니다. 8,9절을 보십시오.

  

“[갈]6:8 자기의 육체를 위하여 심는 자는 육체로부터 썩어질 것을 거두고 성령을 위하여 심는 자는 성령으로부터 영생을 거두리라

  

[갈]6:9 우리가 선을 행하되 낙심하지 말지니 포기하지 아니하면 때가 이르매 거두리라”

  

두 가지 부류의 사람이 있는데 한 부류는 ‘자기의 육체를 위해서 심는 자’이고 다른 한 부류는 ‘성령을 위하여 심는 자’입니다. 그리스도를 따르며 그리스도께서 원하시는 일을 행하는 자들은 두 번째 성령을 위하여 심는 자입니다. 그렇게 성령을 위하여 심는 자들이 얻게 되는 결실은 영생입니다. 성령으로부터 영생을 거두리라고 하셨기 때문입니다.

  

그렇게 영생을 얻게 되는 이유는 성령을 기쁘시게 하였고 성령을 따라서 함께 행하기 때문입니다. 그럴 때 제한된 삶이 아니라 영원한 삶을 살 수 있고 구원을 받을 수 있습니다. 그래서 우리가 성령을 위하여 심는 자가 되는 것이 중요합니다.

  

성령을 위해서 심고 그로 인해서 영생을 거두는 삶이 지속되면 좋은데 그렇지 못할 때 제일 안타깝습니다. 그렇게 되는 이유는 선을 행하면서도 그 결과에 상심하거나 절망하거나 포기 하지 않고 끝까지 선을 행하는 것이 어렵기 때문입니다. 본문에도 나오지만 ‘우리가 선을 행하되 낙심하지 말지니’라는 말씀처럼 낙심하게 되기가 쉽습니다. 낙심했다는 뜻은 내 생각을 더 중요하게 여겼다는 뜻입니다. 그 이유는 선의 결과를 주님으로부터 찾으려고 하지 않고 나에게서  찾으려고 하는 것이 중요하기 때문입니다. 주님이 주시는 결과를 받고자 할 때에는 낙심이라는 것이 없습니다. 애초에 자신의 뜻이 이루어지기를 바라는 기대 조차 하지 않을 수 있습니다.

  

그것은 소망이 없다는 뜻이 아닙니다. 자신의 뜻을 중심으로 하는 마음이 아니라는 의미이고 하나님의 뜻을 더 중요하게 여기는 마음으로 바뀔 수 있습니다. 그러면 우리는 포기하지 않게 됩니다. 하나님의 뜻을 중요하게 여기기 때문에 계속해서 하나님의 일을 행하는 것입니다. 

  

또한 이렇게 하나님의 일을 포기하지 않고 계속해서 꾸준히 했을 때 이루어지는 것은 자신의 뜻이 아닙니다. 핵심은 포기하지 않고 꾸준히 하면 무엇이든 이루어진다는 의미가 아닙니다. 하나님의 뜻을 중요하게 여길 때 포기하지 않을 수 있고 그럴 때 하나님의 뜻이 이루어진다는 말씀입니다.

  

우리가 포기하고 좌절했던 많은 것들이 있습니다. 그러나 하나님께서는 그 모든 일들에 대해서 하나님의 뜻을 알게 하십니다. 우리가 하나님의 뜻을 이해할 때 내 뜻이 이루어지는 것이 아니라 하나님의 뜻이 이루어집니다. 그래서 하나님의 때가 이르렀을 때 거둘 수 있는 것입니다. 그렇다면 그럴 때 거두는 것이 무엇인가를 생각한다면 그것은 앞서 나왔던 영생에 준하는 것들입니다. 성령을 위하여 심는 자가 성령으로부터 영생을 거둔다면 하나님의 뜻을 행하며 선을 행하는 자는 하나님의 때가 되었을 때 하나님의 결실을 얻게 될 것입니다. 그것이 구원이요 생명이고 영광이 됩니다.

  

예수님의 제자들이 거둔 것을 생각해 보십시오. 그들은 예수님을 따라서 위대한 사도가 되고 놀라운 복음사역에 동참하는 영광을 얻었습니다. 믿음의 성도들이 거둔 것을 생각해 보십시오. 세상적인 것이 아니라 신앙적인 것들을 풍성히 거두었습니다. 그 시간에 다른 세상적인 것을 했다면 그 세상적인 걸 얻었겠지만 대신 신앙적인 것을 얻지는 못했을 것입니다. 우리는 신앙적인 것을 얻는 사람들입니다. 이러한 소망이 있기 때문에 우리는 계속해서 하나님의 일을 행합니다. 10절을 보십시오.

  

“[갈]6:10 그러므로 우리는 기회 있는 대로 모든 이에게 착한 일을 하되 더욱 믿음의 가정들에게 할지니라”

  

기회 있는 대로 모든 이에게 착한 일을 하는 것은 그것이 낙심하지 않고 선을 행하면서 하나님의 뜻을 행하는 것이기 때문입니다. 세상 사람들에게 그렇게 착한 일을 할 뿐만 아니라 더욱 믿음의 가정들에게 할 때 그 유익과 결실이 더욱 풍성해 집니다. 이와 같은 선행을 하는 것이 바로 그리스도인들이고 그렇게 할 때 그리스도인의 삶은 지속되는 것이 가치 있고 하나님 나라에 유익한 일이 됩니다. 하나님께서도 그러한 그리스도인의 섬김의 삶을 통해서 영광을 받으십니다.

  

 

  

우리의 모습이 바로 이렇게 되기를 기대하고 사모하며 노력하는 자들이 되어야 하겠습니다. 그럴 때 하나님의 때가 되면 하나님께서 주시는 좋은 것을 풍성하게 누리게 될 것입니다. 이러한 은혜의 소망이 우리 모두에게 넘치시기를 축원합니다.

[Gal.] 6:8 For whoever sows to please their own flesh will from that flesh reap corruption, but whoever sows to please the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.

  

[Gal.] 6:9 Let us not grow weary in doing good, for in due season we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

  

[Gal.] 6:10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who belong to the family of faith.

  

 

  

The continuation of the Christian life means continuing to do what Christ wants. Therefore, Jesus saves those who believe in Him, and that salvation lasts forever. Through this, there exist those who continue to do what the Lord does for eternity. The important point is that the Lord did not initially save those who were already fulfilling His will, but rather that those whom He saved live according to His will. Therefore, as Christians, we live by longing for the Lord's will. This is not just for a certain period of time; we live this way for eternity.

  

Now, considering this continuity of Christ's life, today's passage shows what is revealed and how it is manifested. Look at verses 8 and 9:

  

“[Gal. 6:8] For the one who sows to please his own flesh will from that flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to please the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.

  

[Gal. 6:9] And let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due season we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

  

There are two types of people: those who "sow to please their own flesh" and those who "sow to please the Spirit." Those who follow Christ and do what He desires are the second type of people who sow to please the Spirit. The fruit of those who sow to please the Spirit is eternal life. Because He said we will reap eternal life from the Holy Spirit.

  

The reason we receive eternal life is because we please the Holy Spirit and walk in accordance with Him. Only then can we live eternal life, not a limited life, and receive salvation. That's why it's important for us to become those who sow for the Holy Spirit.

  

It would be wonderful if we could continue to sow for the Holy Spirit and reap eternal life through it, but it's most unfortunate when that doesn't happen. This happens because it's difficult to persevere in good deeds without being discouraged, despairing, or giving up on the results. As the text says, "Let us not become weary in doing good," it's easy to become discouraged. Being discouraged means placing more importance on our own thoughts. This is because it's important to seek the results of goodness within ourselves, not from the Lord. When we seek the results the Lord gives, there's no such thing as discouragement. We can even abandon the expectation that our own will will be fulfilled.

  

This doesn't mean there's no hope. It means our hearts are no longer centered on our own will, and we can change to a heart that prioritizes God's will over others. Then we won't give up. Because we value God's will, we continue to do God's work.

  

Moreover, when we persist in God's work without giving up, what is accomplished is not our own will. The point isn't that anything will be accomplished if we persist without giving up. It's that when we value God's will, we won't give up, and when we do, His will will be accomplished.

  

There are many things we've given up on and been frustrated with. However, God reveals His will to us in all of these matters. When we understand His will, it's not our own will that will be accomplished, but His. That's why we can reap when God's time comes. If we consider what we reap then, it's something similar to the eternal life mentioned earlier. If those who sow to the Spirit reap eternal life from the Spirit, then those who do God's will and do good will receive God's fruit when God's time comes. That is salvation, life, and glory.

  

Consider what Jesus' disciples achieved. They followed Jesus and became great apostles, and they received the glory of participating in the amazing gospel ministry. Consider what the saints of faith achieved. We have reaped an abundance of spiritual things, not worldly things. If we had spent that time pursuing other worldly pursuits, we would have gained those worldly things, but not the spiritual. We are people who have gained the spiritual. Because of this hope, we continue to do God's work. Look at verse 10:

  

“[Galatians 6:10] Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who belong to the family of faith.”

  

 

  

Doing good to all, as we have opportunity, is doing God's will without growing weary in doing good. Not only do we do such good to the world, but when we do it especially to those who belong to the family of faith, the benefits and fruits become even more abundant. Christians are those who do such good deeds, and when they do so, the Christian life becomes valuable and beneficial to the kingdom of God. God is also glorified through such a life of Christian service.

  

 

  

We should be people who hope, long, and strive to become like this. Then, when God's time comes, we will abundantly enjoy the good things He gives us. May this hope of grace overflow to us all.
