가정은 가족만으로 유지되는 것이 아닙니다. 가정에는 가족들을 돕는 많은 자원들이 있습니다. 부모님은 부모님 대로 도움을 받고 있고 자녀들은 자녀대로 도움을 받고 있습니다. 이러한 도움은 경제적인 도움도 있고 관계적인 도움도 있습니다. 그런 도움이 있으니 가정이 유지될 수 있습니다. 가족이 어떤 무인도나 외딴 섬에 고립되서 가족끼리만 살아간다면 생존해 나가기가 어려운 것과 같습니다.

하나님께서는 이렇게 가정을 유지하고 발전시켜서 하나님의 뜻을 이룰 수 있도록 도우십니다. 그 도움을 잘 따를 때 우리는 우리의 삶을 주관하시고 인도하시는 하나님을 경험할 수 있습니다. 그래서 그 모든 것이 하나님의 은혜와 사랑이라는 것을 깨닫게 됩니다. 그런 의미에서 우리는 하나님께서 가정을 도와 주시는 손길이 있고 그 손길을 이해하고 깨달아야 합니다. 그럴 때 감사하고 기뻐하며 더욱 하나님을 확신할 수 있습니다.

그 중 중요한 하나가 바로 교사입니다. 교사의 중요성은 인간의 발달과정 속에서 이해하게 됩니다. 어린 아이가 가정에서 태어나서 자랄 때 부모님이나 친척, 이웃 다음으로 만나는 사람들이 바로 선생님입니다. 어린이집 선생님, 유치원 선생님, 초등학교 선생님 등 선생님은 어린 자녀들의 성장과정에서 반드시 만나게 되는 고마운 분입니다. 이 선생님의 존재가 바로 하나님으로부터 왔습니다. 하나님께서 보내 주신 선생님들을 통해 우리는 가정에 대한 하나님의 도우심과 사랑을 깨닫게 됩니다. 그래서 선생님들께 감사할 뿐만 아니라 하나님께도 감사해야 합니다. 한 분 선생님의 도우심은 이 세상에서 경험하는 가족을 위한 하나님의 도우심으로 이해되기 때문입니다.

이제 하나님께서 어떻게 이러한 도우심을 준비하시는가를 말씀 속에서 살펴보려고 합니다. 가정을 돕는 선생님을 세우시기 위해서 하나님께서는 놀라운 계획과 인도하심 가운데 행하십니다. 예수님께서 이 세상에 오셔서 하신 일중의 하나도 바로 그런 일이었습니다.

“[막]6:30 사도들이 예수께 모여 자기들이 행한 것과 가르친 것을 낱낱이 고하니

[막]6:31 이르시되 너희는 따로 한적한 곳에 가서 잠깐 쉬어라 하시니 이는 오고 가는 사람이 많아 음식 먹을 겨를도 없음이라”

이 말씀 속에서 예수님은 사도들의 행함과 가르친 것을 낱낱이 들으셨습니다. 그렇게 하신 이유는 사실 그 이전에 예수님께서 사도들을 각 마을로 보내셨기 때문이었습니다. 나중에 사도가 된 제자들은 예수님의 말씀에 순종하여 각 마을에 예수님께서 하라고 하신 말씀을 증거하고 전파하기 위해서 다녔고 그 일이 다 끝난 다음에 다시 예수님께 돌아와서 자신들이 어떻게 행했고 어떤 것을 가르쳤는지를 보고한 것이었습니다. 예수님도 직접 그들을 보내셨기 때문에 그들이 돌아와서 어떻게 보고하는지를 잘 들으셨습니다.

그리고 잘 들어 주신 것만이 아니라 칭찬도 하시고 격려도 해주셨습니다. ‘너희는 따로 한적한 곳에 가서 잠깐 쉬어라’고 해주셨기 때문입니다. 예수님은 제자들이 오고가는 사람이 많아서 음식 먹을 겨를도 없었다는 것을 잘 알고 계셨습니다. 그래서 제자들을 배려해 주시고 먹을 수 있도록 공급해 주셨습니다. 이러한 예수님의 자상한 모습을 통해서 우리는 하나님께서 하나님의 지식과 지혜를 전파하는 자들에게 어떻게 쉬게 해주시고 먹게 해주시는가를 깨달을 수 있습니다. 그런 도우심을 통해 우리는 하나님께서 선생님들을 먹여 살리신다는 것을 깨달을 수 있습니다.  

지금도 하나님께서는 가르치는 자들에게 필요한 것을 공급하십니다. 나라의 선생님들이 나라에서 월급을 주는 것처럼 직장의 선생님들이 그 직장에서 월급을 주는 것처럼 하나님의 선생님들이 하나님으로부터 필요한 은혜와 축복을 공급받습니다. 그것은 이 세상에서만 누리는 것이 아닙니다. 하나님 나라에 갔을 때 하나님 나라에서 하나님의 뜻을 가르친 것으로 인해서 또한 크신 상급을 받을 것입니다. 이러한 소망이 있기 때문에 하나님의 선생님들이 귀한 것입니다.

그런데 이렇게 하나님께서 주시는 축복이나 상급을 알게 되다 보면 더 크고 좋은 것을 알 수 있게 됩니다. 그것은 바로 하나님 자신을 깨닫게 된다는 것입니다. 모든 선생님들의 선생님이 바로 예수님입니다. 그래서 선생님들에게는 예수님으로부터 배우고 예수님이 가르치시는 것을 보는 것이 제일 큰 영광입니다. 자신이 가르치는 모든 것의 원형이자 가장 진정한 지식이자 지혜이고 진리이신 분이 바로 예수님입니다. 그러니 모든 가르치는 자는 그러한 예수님을 바라보아야 합니다. 또한 모든 배우는 자들도 그러한 예수님을 깨달아야 합니다.

그렇지 않고 교사만 본다고 해 보십시오. 그러면 교사가 예수님을 가리고 하나님을 가리게 될 것입니다. 그건 오히려 하나님께 책망을 받을 일이 될 것입니다. 배우는 사람도 마찬가지입니다. 내가 나를 가르쳐 준 사람을 통해서 하나님을 보고 예수님을 봐야지 그렇지 않고 선생님을 통해 교사를 통해서 하나님, 예수님을 보지 못하게 된다면 나도 배우는 것을 오해하는 모습이 됩니다.

이제 모든 선생님들의 창조자요 인도자이신 하나님을 바라보십시오. 그리고 모든 교사들의 모범이자 원형이신 예수님을 바라보십시오. 그분은 어떻게 가르치셨습니까? 32절부터 보십시오.

“[막]6:32 이에 배를 타고 따로 한적한 곳에 갈새

[막]6:33 그들이 가는 것을 보고 많은 사람이 그들인 줄 안지라 모든 고을로부터 도보로 그 곳에 달려와 그들보다 먼저 갔더라

[막]6:34 예수께서 나오사 큰 무리를 보시고 그 목자 없는 양 같음으로 인하여 불쌍히 여기사 이에 여러 가지로 가르치시더라”

예수님께서 제자들을 데리고 따로 한적한 곳으로 가서 제자들을 좀 쉬게 하시려고 했을 때 많은 사람들은 예수님과 제자들인 것을 알아보고 모든 고을로부터 도보로 그들이 있는 곳에 달려와서 그 한적한 곳에 도착해 있었습니다. 그래서 도저히 쉴 수 없게 되었고 그들에 대해서 뭔가를 해주어야만 했습니다. 바로 그때 예수님께서는 직접 나서셨습니다.

그 분주하고 쉬지 못하는 상황에서 예수님은 제자들을 시키거나 또 힘들게 하거나 하시지 않고 직접 그 큰 무리를 보시면서 여러 가지를 가르쳐 주셨습니다. 그 이유는 분명했습니다. ‘그 목자 없는 양 같음으로 인하여 불쌍히 여기셨기 때문’이었습니다. 사람들에게는 예수님의 가르침이 필요했습니다. 또한 예수님의 가르치심을 통해서 그들에게는 구원이 임하였습니다. 예수님은 단지 세상을 살아가는 지혜나 지식을 가르친 것이 아니라 세상으로부터 구원을 받는 생명과 소망을 가르치셨던 것입니다.

언젠가 우리가 하나님 나라에 가게 되면 이 세상에서 배웠던 세상의 지식은 무슨 의미가 있겠습니까? 그 나라에서는 하나님 중심으로 새로운 생명과 소망을 갖게 될 것이기 때문에 이 세상에서도 그리고 다음 세상에서도 의미 있는 것은 예수님으로부 터 배우는 모든 지혜와 지식과 생명과 소망에 대한 가르침입니다.    

그게 왜 중요한가 하면 그 가르침은 불쌍히 여기심으로부터 나오기 때문입니다. 우리를 구원하신 구원자이신 예수님은 우리의 처지와 형편을 불쌍히 여기십니다. 우리가 정말 불쌍해서 그렇기도 하지만 본질적으로 예수님은 우리를 지으셨고 우리에 대해서 놀라운 계획을 가지고 계십니다. 그러니 그 창조하실 때의 아름다움을 알고 계시고 예정하실 때의 그 놀라움을 알고 계시니 그에 부합하지 못하는 인간의 연약함과 어리석음을 얼마나 안타까워 하시겠습니까?

또한 지금은 괜찮은 것 같아도 앞으로 상황이 변하고 시간이 흘러 우리 모두가 연약하게 될 때 그때 어떻게 될 것인가를 예수님은 알고 계십니다. 그래서 예수님으로부터 배우고 깨닫는 것은 미래에 일어날 그 일들을 준비하고 대비하는 놀라운 일이 됩니다.

예수님은 마가복음 14장에서 제자들에게 앞으로 일어날 일을 미리 말씀해 주셨습니다.

“[막]14:27  예수께서 제자들에게 이르시되 너희가 다 나를 버리리라 이는 기록된 바 내가 목자를 치리니 양들이 흩어지리라 하였음이니라

[막]14:28   그러나 내가 살아난 후에 너희보다 먼저 갈릴리로 가리라”

제자들이 다 스승인 예수님을 버릴 것인데 그것은 기록된 말씀을 응하게 하시려는 것이었습니다. 그러나 예수님이 살아나신 후에는 갈릴리에 먼저 가서 그들을 기다릴 것이라고 하셨습니다. 이러한 말씀이 제자들에게 생명과 소망이 되어서 그들이 정말 예수님을 버리게 되었지만 낙심하지 않고 예수님을 기다려서 마침내 갈릴리에서 예수님의 말씀을 다시 들을 수 있었습니다.

우리도 언젠가는 이 세상을 떠나게 될 것입니다. 그것은 하나님이 정하신 미래입니다. 하지만 그 후에 하나님 나라에 가서 예수님의 그 말씀을 다시 들을 수 있다면 얼마나 영광스럽겠습니까? 세상에서 들었던 말씀을 하나님 나라 천국에서 다시 듣는다면 그 말씀이 얼마나 귀중한 진리였는지를 다시금 깨닫게 될 것입니다.

우리의 영원한 스승이신 예수님을 따르는 우리 모두 되시기를 바랍니다. 또한 예수님께서 세우신 선생님을 따라가는 성도들이 되시기를 바랍니다. 그래서 우리 모두가 하나님 나라에서 하나님의 말씀을 다시 듣게 되기를 간절히 축원합니다.

[Mark] 6:30 The apostles gathered around Jesus and told him everything they had done and taught.

[Mark] 6:31 He said to them, “Go to a secluded place and rest for a while,” for there were so many people coming and going that they had no time to eat.

[Mark] 6:32 So they got into a boat and went to a secluded place.

[Mark] 6:33 When many saw them going, they recognized them. So they ran on foot from all the towns to that place and went ahead of them.

[Mark] 6:34 When Jesus came out and saw the large crowds, he had compassion on them because they were like sheep without a shepherd. And he began to teach them many things.

A family is not sustained by the family alone. There are many resources within the family that help the family. Parents receive help in their own way, and children receive help in their own way. This help includes both financial and relational support. It is because of such help that a family can be sustained. It is akin to how difficult it would be for a family to survive if they were isolated on a deserted or remote island, living only with each other.

God helps maintain and develop the family in this way so that His will may be fulfilled. When we faithfully follow that help, we can experience God governing and guiding our lives. Consequently, we come to realize that all of this is God's grace and love. In this sense, we must recognize and understand the hand of God helping the family. When we do so, we can give thanks and rejoice, and have even greater confidence in God.

One of the most important figures is the teacher. The importance of teachers is understood within the process of human development. When a young child is born and grows up in a home, the people they meet after parents, relatives, and neighbors are their teachers. Daycare teachers, kindergarten teachers, elementary school teachers—teachers are grateful figures whom young children inevitably encounter during their growth process. The very existence of these teachers comes from God. Through the teachers God has sent, we come to realize God's help and love for our families. Therefore, we should give thanks not only to the teachers but also to God. This is because the help of a single teacher is understood as God's help for the family experienced in this world.

Now, we intend to examine in the Scriptures how God prepares such help. To raise up teachers who help families, God acts within amazing plans and guidance. One of the things Jesus did when He came into this world was precisely such an act.

“[Mark] 6:30 The apostles gathered around Jesus and told him everything they had done and taught.

[Mark] 6:31 He said to them, ‘Go to a secluded place and rest for a while,’ for there were so many people coming and going that they had no time to eat.”

In this passage, Jesus heard in detail what the apostles had done and taught. The reason He did this was, in fact, because He had sent the apostles to each village beforehand. The disciples, who later became apostles, obeyed Jesus' words and traveled to every village to testify to and preach the message He had instructed them to deliver. After completing this work, they returned to Jesus to report how they had acted and what they had taught. Since Jesus had personally sent them out, He listened attentively to their reports upon their return.

Not only did He listen attentively, but He also praised and encouraged them. This was because He told them, "Go to a secluded place by yourselves and rest for a while." Jesus knew well that the disciples had no time to eat due to the large number of people coming and going. Therefore, He showed consideration for them and provided for them to eat. Through this caring example of Jesus, we can realize how God provides rest and food for those who proclaim His knowledge and wisdom. Through such help, we can understand that God feeds and sustains His teachers.

Even now, God provides for the needs of those who teach. Just as teachers in a nation receive a salary from the state, and teachers in a workplace receive a salary from their workplace, God's teachers receive the necessary grace and blessings from God. This is not something enjoyed only in this world. When they go to the Kingdom of God, they will also receive great rewards for having taught God's will there. It is because of this hope that God's teachers are precious.

However, as one comes to know the blessings and rewards given by God in this way, one comes to realize something even greater and better. That is the realization of God Himself. Jesus is the teacher of all teachers. Therefore, for teachers, the greatest honor is to learn from Jesus and to witness what Jesus teaches. Jesus is the archetype of everything they teach, the most genuine knowledge, wisdom, and truth. Therefore, every teacher must look to such a Jesus. Likewise, every learner must realize such a Jesus.

Imagine if they do not do so and only look at the teacher. Then the teacher will obscure Jesus and obscure God. That would actually be something for which they would be rebuked by God. The same applies to the learner. I must see God and Jesus through the person who taught me; if I fail to see God and Jesus through the teacher, it means I am misunderstanding what I am learning.

Now, look to God, the Creator and Guide of all teachers. And look to Jesus, the Model and Archetype of all teachers. How did He teach? Look starting from verse 32.

“[Mark] 6:32 So they got into a boat and went to a secluded place.

[Mark] 6:33 When many saw them going, they recognized them and ran on foot from all the towns to the place and arrived ahead of them.

[Mark] 6:34 When Jesus came out and saw the large crowds, He had compassion on them because they were like sheep without a shepherd, and He began to teach them many things.”

When Jesus took His disciples to a secluded place to let them rest, many people recognized Jesus and His disciples and ran on foot from all the towns to where they were, arriving at that secluded place. As a result, they could not possibly rest, and He had to do something for them. It was at that very moment that Jesus Himself stepped forward.

In that busy and restless situation, Jesus did not order His disciples around or burden them; instead, He personally looked upon the large crowd and taught them various things. The reason was clear: it was because He had compassion on them, seeing them as sheep without a shepherd. The people needed Jesus’ teachings. Furthermore, through Jesus’ teachings, salvation came to them. Jesus did not merely teach wisdom or knowledge for living in the world, but taught the life and hope of receiving salvation from the world.

When we eventually go to the Kingdom of God, what meaning will the worldly knowledge we learned in this world hold? Since we will possess new life and hope centered on God in that kingdom, what is meaningful—both in this world and in the next—is all the wisdom, knowledge, and teachings regarding life and hope that we learn from Jesus.

The reason this is important is that such teaching stems from compassion. Jesus, the Savior who saved us, has compassion on our circumstances and situations. While this is partly because we are truly pitiful, fundamentally, Jesus created us and has an amazing plan for us. Therefore, knowing the beauty of creation and the wonder of predestination, how sorrowful must He be over the weakness and foolishness of humans who fail to live up to it?

Furthermore, even if things seem fine now, Jesus knows what will happen when circumstances change, time passes, and we all become weak. Thus, learning and realizing from Jesus becomes an amazing way to prepare and get ready for those events that will occur in the future.

In Mark 14, Jesus foretold to His disciples what would happen in the future.

“[Mark] 14:27 Jesus said to His disciples, ‘You will all forsake Me, for it is written: “I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.”

[Mark] 14:28 But when I have risen, I will go ahead of you to Galilee.”

The disciples would all forsake their Master, Jesus, but this was to fulfill the written word. However, Jesus said that after He rose again, He would go to Galilee first to wait for them. These words became life and hope for the disciples; even though they were truly forced to abandon Jesus, they did not lose heart but waited for Him, and finally, in Galilee, they were able to hear His words again.

We, too, will one day leave this world. That is the future ordained by God. However, how glorious would it be if, after that, we could go to the Kingdom of God and hear those words of Jesus again? If we hear the words we heard in this world again in the Kingdom of God, Heaven, we will realize once more how precious the truth those words were.

I hope that we all become followers of Jesus, our eternal teacher. I also hope that we become saints who follow the teachers established by Jesus. Therefore, I earnestly pray that we may all hear God's word again in the Kingdom of God.
