지난 4월 5일 부활절이 지난 뒤로 14일 2주가 지났습니다. 우리는 부활 이후의 삶을 살고 있고 그것은 고난이 끝나고 부활하신 주님의 소망이 넘치는 삶이기도 합니다. 부활하신 이후로 예수님은 40일간 제자들과 함께 하셨기 때문에 올해 달력으로 따지만 5월 14일까지 지상에 함께 하신 것이고 그 날이 승천기념일이 됩니다. 그리고 10일 뒤인 5월 24일이 오순절 성령강림일입니다.

  

이렇게 성경의 시간이 흐르는 것을 생각해 보면 현재 우리의 삶의 흐름 속에서 하나님의 역사를 생각할 수 있고 그 역사가 좀더 현재적으로 느껴 지기도 합니다. 말하자면 내가 이런 일을 하고 있는 동안 예수님의 시간은 이러한 일들이 있었다고 느끼는 것입니다. 지금도 우리가 예수님의 시간을 의식하지 않는다면 나의 시간만 존재하겠지만 내 시간 위에 예수님의 시간이 얹혀진다면 나는 나만의 시간을 사는 것이 아니라 하나님의 시간을 겸해서 살아가는 것이 됩니다. 그것이 성도의 인생입니다. 그렇게 살다가 나의 시간이 끝이 나면 그 다음에는 하나님의 시간을 살아가게 되는 것입니다. 이는 비유로 하자면 마치 내 양초의 불을 하나님의 양초로 옮겨 놓는 것과 같습니다. 그리고 시간이 흘러 내 양초의 불이 꺼지면 그 다음엔 하나님의 양초 속에서 살아가는 것입니다.

  

 

  

그 부활의 시간을 살아갈 때 이전에 예수님께서 하셨던 말씀을 묵상해 보려고 합니다. 마가복음 10장 40절에는 예수님의 십자가 고난이 있기 전에 하셨던 말씀이 나옵니다. 이미 우리는 예수님의 부활 속에서 살아가고 있지만 과거에 예수님이 하셨던 말씀을 보면서 이 말씀의 뜻이 이런 것이었다는 것을 새삼 깨닫게 됩니다. 그것은 40, 41절입니다.

  

“[막]10:40 내 좌우편에 앉는 것은 내가 줄 것이 아니라 누구를 위하여 준비되었든지 그들이 얻을 것이니라

  

[막]10:41 열 제자가 듣고 야고보와 요한에 대하여 화를 내거늘”

  

이것은 제자들 중 야고보와 요한이 예수님께 나아와 예수님의 좌우편에 앉게 해달라고 말한 것 때문에 다른 열 제자가 듣고 화를 내는 장면이었습니다. 그리고 우리는 이것이 바로 우리 자신의 인생모습이라는 것을 깨닫게 됩니다. 이 세상에서 인간은 예수님 앞에서도 끊임없이 권력을 추구하고 있고 또한 그런 모습에 화를 내고 있습니다. 어쩌면 우리도 그럴지 모릅니다. 그것이 우리의 인생의 모습이요 매일 우리 자신에게서 일어나는 치열한 투쟁인지도 모릅니다. 그런데 예수님은 그런 인생 속에서 예수님을 바라보게 하십니다.

  

“[막]10:42 예수께서 불러다가 이르시되 이방인의 집권자들이 그들을 임의로 주관하고 그 고관들이 그들에게 권세를 부리는 줄을 너희가 알거니와

  

[막]10:43 너희 중에는 그렇지 않을지니 너희 중에 누구든지 크고자 하는 자는 너희를 섬기는 자가 되고”

  

예수님은 그런 모습은 이방인의 집권자들이나 그 고관들에 악한 모습으로 권세를 부리는 것과 같다고 하셨습니다. 그래서 그런 탐욕스러운 모습을 너희가 알고 있다고 하신 것입니다. 그리고 예수님이 원하시는 모습은 그렇게 하지 않는 것이었습니다. 그렇게 하지 않으려고 하면 할 수 있는 일은 크고자 할 때 오히려 남을 섬기는 자가 되는 것입니다. 이것이 바로 예수님이 원하시는 모습이었습니다.

  

예수님이 이러한 모습을 원하시는 이유가 있었습니다. 그것은 그럴 때 예수님을 닮아갈 수 있기 때문입니다. 이렇게 말씀하시면서 예수님은 행동만 닮게 하시려는 것이 아니었습니다. 그 속에 있는 정신과 생각도 닮게 하시려는 뜻이었습니다. 그 정신은 바로 우리를 위해서 십자가에 달려 죽으셨던 마음입니다. 그래서 ‘너희 중에 누구든지 (너희 보다) 크고자 하는 자는 너희를 섬기는 자가 되고’ 라는 말씀을 하셨습니다. 예수님 자신이 우리의 죄를 사해 주심으로 우리를 섬기는 자가 되셨으니 그 예수님의 마음과 행동을 우리도 따라야 합니다. 우리가 그렇게 할 때 예수님의 진실하신 사랑을 알게 됩니다. 요한일서 4장 10절은 이 사랑을 이렇게 말했습니다.

  

“[요일]4:10 사랑은 여기 있으니 우리가 하나님을 사랑한 것이 아니요 하나님이 우리를 사랑하사 우리 죄를 속하기 위하여 화목제물로 그 아들을 보내셨음이라”

  

하나님은 우리를 사랑하셨고 예수님은 하나님과 우리를 사랑하셨습니다. 그래서 화목제물로 보내어 지신 것입니다. 이 온전한 사랑을 통해서 우리는 사랑을 받은 자들이 되어서 구원을 받았습니다. 그 사랑을 따라갈 때 우리는 예수님 안에서 새로운 생명을 얻게 됩니다. 그렇게 얻은 새로운 생명의 모습이 바로 예수님의 모습입니다. 44,45절을 보십시오.

  

“[막]10:44 너희 중에 누구든지 으뜸이 되고자 하는 자는 모든 사람의 종이 되어야 하리라

  

[막]10:45 인자가 온 것은 섬김을 받으려 함이 아니라 도리어 섬기려 하고 자기 목숨을 많은 사람의 대속물로 주려 함이니라”

  

예수님은 모든 사람의 대속물로 주어지고 구세주가 되심으로 죄의 종이 되어 주셨습니다. 그 이유는 예수님이 으뜸이 되셨기 때문입니다. 예수님이 그 모든 죄사함을 받는 자들의 머리가 되시고 모범이 되십니다. 또한 인자 이신 예수님은 섬기려 하시고 자기 목숨을 많은 사람의 대속물로 주기 위해서 이 세상에 오셨습니다. 그래서 주님이 섬기시는 것을 볼 때 그리고 그 목숨을 우리를 포함한 많은 사람의 대속물로 주신 것을 볼 때 예수님이 진실로 이 세상에 오신 인자요 하나님의 아들이심을 깨달을 수 있습니다. 인자이시기 때문에 섬기시고 대속물이 되셨고 또한 섬기시고 대속물이 되셨기 때문에 인자이신 것입니다.

  

우리 삶에서도 그런 상황이 있습니다. 아빠가 가야 하고 엄마가 나타나야 할 때 그 아빠와 엄마를 보게 됩니다. 때로는 어려운 상황에서도 자녀 대신 책임지고 자녀 대신 사과하며 자녀 대신 고통받을 때 그분이 진정한 아빠이자 엄마인 것을 알게 됩니다. 모른 척하는 부모가 부모가 아닌 것은 부모님은 바로 자녀에 대해 가정에 대해서 책임을 지는 사람이기 때문입니다. 성도로서도 그렇습니다. 성도는 그리스도의 몸인 교회를 감당하는 자들이고 또한 교회를 감당하면서 성도로서 나타납니다.

  

예수님은 우리의 죄를 모른 척 하지 않으시고 우리의 구세주이시기 때문에 우리의 죄를 위한 대속물이 되어 주셨습니다. 이러한 깨달음이 우리의 존재가 하나님의 존재로 바뀌게 만듭니다. 예수님 안에서 죄인에서 의인으로 변화되는 것입니다. 그걸 믿고 따르고 행하기 때문에 우리가 그리스도인인 것이고 또한 그리스도인이기 때문에 그걸 믿고 따르고 행합니다.  

  

 

  

부활 이후에 예수님이 하셨던 말씀을 다시 음미해 보면서 우리가 하나님의 시간을 살아갈 수 있기를 바랍니다. 우리에게는 우리 자신의 시간만 있는 것이 아닙니다. 우리를 구원하신 하나님의 시간이 있습니다. 그래서 그 하나님의 시간을 귀중히 여기면서 더욱 하나님의 사람으로 살아가고 부활하신 주님을 의지하면서 살아가는 거룩한 성도가 되시기를 주님의 이름으로 축원합니다.

[Mark] 10:40 It is not I who will give you to sit at my right or left hand, but it will be given to whom it is prepared.

[Mark] 10:42 Jesus called them over and said to them, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them and their high officials exercise authority over them.

  

 

  

[Mark] 10:43 But it shall not be so among you. Whoever wishes to be great among you must be your servant,

  

 

  

[Mark] 10:44 and whoever wishes to be first among you must be the slave of all.

  

 

  

[Mark] 10:45 For the Son of Man came to be served. No, rather, to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.

  

 

  

It has been 14 days—two weeks—since Easter on April 5th. We are living a life after the resurrection, a life where suffering has ended and the hope of the resurrected Lord overflows. Since Jesus was with His disciples for 40 days after His resurrection, according to this year's calendar, He was with them on earth until May 14th, which is the Memorial of the Ascension. And 10 days later, on May 24th, is Pentecost.

  

 

  

When we consider how time flows in the Bible in this way, we can contemplate God's work within the flow of our current lives, and that work feels more present. In other words, we feel that while I am doing these things, these events were happening in Jesus' time. Even now, if we are not conscious of Jesus' time, only my time exists; but if Jesus' time is superimposed upon my time, I am not living my own time, but rather living in conjunction with God's time. That is the life of a saint. Living that way, when my time comes to an end, I will then live out God's time. To use an analogy, this is like transferring the flame of my candle to God's candle. And as time passes and the flame of my candle goes out, then I will live within God's candle.

  

 

  

As we live through that time of resurrection, I intend to meditate on the words Jesus spoke previously. Mark 10:40 contains words spoken before Jesus’ suffering on the cross. Although we are already living within Jesus’ resurrection, looking at the words Jesus spoke in the past, we realize anew what the true meaning of these words was. These are verses 40 and 41.

  

 

  

“[Mark] 10:40 It is not I who will give you to sit at my right or left hand, but it will be given to whoever is prepared for it.

  

 

  

[Mark] 10:41 When the ten disciples heard this, they were angry with James and John.”

  

 

  

This was a scene where the other ten disciples became angry upon hearing that James and John, among the disciples, had approached Jesus and asked to sit on His right and left hands. And we come to realize that this is precisely the state of our own lives. In this world, humans ceaselessly pursue power even in the presence of Jesus, and they become angry at such behavior. Perhaps we are like that, too. This may be the nature of our lives and the fierce struggle that takes place within us every day. However, Jesus makes us look to Him amidst such lives.

  

 

  

“[Mark] 10:42 Jesus called them over and said to them, ‘You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them.

  

 

  

[Mark] 10:43 But it shall not be so among you. Whoever wishes to become great among you must be your servant.’”

  

 

  

Jesus said that such behavior is akin to the Gentile rulers or high officials wielding power in an evil manner. That is why He said that they are aware of such greedy behavior. And what Jesus desired was for them not to act that way. If one chooses not to act that way, the only thing one can do is to become a servant to others when seeking to become great. This is precisely the image Jesus desired.

  

 

  

There was a reason why Jesus desired this image. It is because only then can one come to resemble Jesus. In speaking these words, Jesus did not intend merely to make us resemble Him in our actions. He intended for us to resemble Him in the spirit and thoughts within us as well. That spirit is the very heart that died on the cross for us. That is why He said, “Whoever among you wishes to be greater than you must be your servant.” Since Jesus Himself became our servant by forgiving our sins, we too must follow His heart and actions. When we do so, we come to know Jesus’ true love. 1 John 4:10 describes this love as follows:

  

 

  

“[1 John] 4:10 Here is love: not that we loved God, but that God loved us and sent His Son as an atonement for our sins.”

  

 

  

God loved us, and Jesus loved both God and us. That is why He was sent as an atonement sacrifice. Through this perfect love, we became those who have been loved and received salvation. When we follow that love, we obtain new life in Jesus. The form of that new life obtained in this way is precisely the image of Jesus. Please look at verses 44 and 45.

  

 

  

“[Mark] 10:44 Whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of all.

  

 

  

[Mark] 10:45 For the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

  

 

  

Jesus became a slave to sin by being given as a ransom for all people and becoming the Savior. The reason for this is that Jesus became the greatest. Jesus is the head and model for all those who receive forgiveness of sins. Furthermore, Jesus, as the Son of Man, came into this world to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many. Therefore, when we see the Lord serving and seeing that He gave His life as a ransom for many people, including us, we can realize that Jesus is truly the Son of Man who came into this world and the Son of God. Because He is the Son of Man, He served and became a ransom, and because He served and became a ransom, He is the Son of Man.

  

 

  

There are such situations in our lives as well. We see the true Father and Mother when it is time for the Father to leave and the Mother to appear. Sometimes, even in difficult situations, we realize that they are the true Father and Mother when they take responsibility on behalf of their children, apologize on their behalf, and suffer on their behalf. Parents who turn a blind eye are not true parents because they are the very ones who bear responsibility for their children and their families. The same applies to us as believers. Believers are those who carry the Church, the body of Christ, and they manifest as believers while carrying the Church.

  

 

  

Jesus did not turn a blind eye to our sins; because He is our Savior, He became the ransom for our sins. This realization causes our existence to transform into God's existence. It is a transformation from sinner to righteous person within Jesus. We are Christians because we believe, follow, and act upon this, and we believe, follow, and act upon it because we are Christians.

  

 

  

As we reflect once again on the words Jesus spoke after the resurrection, I hope we can live out God's time. We do not possess only our own time. We have God's time, which saved us. Therefore, I pray in the name of the Lord that you become a holy saint who cherishes God's time, lives more as a person of God, and lives relying on the resurrected Lord.
